Dr. Cicely Alexander

Dr. Cicely Alexander’s journey has been far more than a job or even a career choice. It has been a calling that she strives to complete, with conviction. Throughout her 30-year career span in public schools, Dr. Alexander has been a classroom teacher, math specialist, counselor, assistant principal, principal, Executive Principal of Principals and now Executive Director of Counseling and College/Career and Military Readiness. She was a 2011 Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA) Region 17 Assistant Principal of the Year Nominee and 2019 TEPSA Region 17 National Distinguished Principal of the Year Nominee. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. honored her as Lubbock Alumnae Chapter Outstanding Community Leader of the Year in 2019 and the Lubbock Classroom Teachers Association awarded her Administrator of the Year in 2019.  Most recently, she was awarded the 2025 MLK Commemorative Council of Lubbock Educator of the Year and 2026 YWCA of Lubbock Women of Excellence Educator Award.

Dr. Alexander is honored to be referred to as a turnaround educator and charismatic persona! She takes pride in being a transformative leader who is collaborative in nature and takes time to coach those whom she supervises to achieve their personal best. She has been described as approachable, relatable and impactful. She ascribes to the belief that one hundred years from now, what we accumulated in our bank accounts will be insignificant, along with our material possessions. However, what will matter most is what we did to impact the lives of others. What she wants to be remembered for most in her career is that in whatever she attempted to do, she did her best to glorify God.

Dr. Alexander has only been able to achieve such success and with longevity because of her faith in God, the intentionality that she has placed on prioritizing family, as well as attention to her own mental health and self-care. Dr. Alexander has been blessed with the opportunity to enjoy a rewarding career serving administrators, counselors, teachers, the community and above all else, students. The premise is that women who are encouraged to be emotionally, mentally and spiritually balanced will be better able to serve, at their optimum performance level. Dr. Alexander earned a bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary studies, a master’s degree in counseling, and her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.

Dr. Alexander wears many hats and one that she holds dear is serving and volunteering alongside her dear husband, in her community, where she serves alongside him in the Holy Temple Church of God in Christ ministry. She is most proud of her beloved family. She and her husband have been married for over 30 years and he is truly her soulmate. He served as Executive Director of South Plains Community College for over a decade and most recently was appointed as C.E.O. of Workforce Solutions of the South Plains. They have three beautiful children. Their oldest son is a graduate of Harvard University. He worked as a consultant for Boston Consultant Group and is currently preparing for a career in law. Their middle child graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana and is preparing to become a medical doctor. Their youngest is a freshman at Southern Methodist University and has his sights set on becoming a biomedical engineer. Their family enjoys travel and experiencing new perspectives and spaces. Their favorite places, thus far have been Nairobi, Kenya; Angel Fire, New Mexico; Florence, Venice and Rome, Italy. Even when they are far from home, they seek opportunities to give back and pay it forward.  All of their travels have taught them that at our core, we are more the same than different. Regardless of the hat that she wears, she trusts that her steps are on a providential path leading to lifelong learning and making a global impact in her local community.
