    Primary Purpose: The position works directly under the supervision of the Frenship ISD Director of Communications and Community Engagement to support and assist with district communications and public relations objectives. The Communications Specialist promotes positive public relations between the school district and the community by preparing and distributing information effectively. Productions included written feature stories and other written materials for district publications as well as photography and video production that further the goals of the department. The Communications Specialist will also manage daily administrative duties in the Public Relations department.

    Qualifications and Experience: Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree (preferred) from an accredited college or university in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications, or related field. (preferred) Special Knowledge/Skills: • Ability to tell a compelling story • Ability and proficiency in photography and videography • Ability to effectively and proficiently write press releases, feature stories, video scripts, brochure copy, web content, social media content, presentation materials, and marketing collateral copy • Proficiency in proofreading and editing with working knowledge of Associated Press style • Strong grammar skills • Basic understanding of graphic design and layout concepts, and desktop publishing skills • Proficient skills in word processing and file maintenance Experience: • Experience in School Public Relations a plus • Prefer a minimum of two years of related experience working in the area of print/electronic/ broadcast communications, public relations, journalism, or marketing

    Major Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Produce internal and external communication materials, including press releases, feature stories, enewsletters, brochures, reports, pictures, videos, web site content, letters, social media content, and special publications for distribution that align with the district communication plan 2. Produce photographs and videos for district publications and presentations 3. Contribute to the communication department overall project planning and management calendar

    Fulfill administrative duties in the Public Relations office that arise including purchase order submissions and other department responsibilities 5. Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing district events and recognitions 6. Assist in providing media relations training and support for campus/department staff 7. Collaborate with communication staff to determine the most effective way to reach target audiences 8. Collaborate with campuses in the district to plan, develop, and implement communication strategies that strengthen the district’s brand and align with the districts communication plan 9. Assist in updating content on the FISD website and other web platforms 10. Manage, develop, and grow the district’s social media platforms as needed 11. Assure the district and campus social media accounts are supportive of the instructional goals and communication strategies of the district 12. Assist in providing media management during emergency and/or crisis situations and serve as secondary liaison between the district, community, and media to positively promote the district 13. Demonstrate the ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information 14. Stay informed to the latest trends and practices in communications and public relations by attending appropriate professional development opportunities 15. Evaluate annually the effectiveness of communication efforts for continuous improvement 16. Model high standards of professional integrity and maintain confidentiality of privileged information
