YEA! Students to Exhibit Businesses at Trade Show


Local middle and high school students from the Lubbock Chamber Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) class of 2019 will reveal 16 new start-up businesses to the public. The students will showcase and sell their products and services at the YEA! Trade Show on Sat. May 11, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. inside the Grand Court at the South Plains Mall.
Below are the companies that will be at the tradeshow.

 
Natalia Minjarez, CEO

Twelve-year-old Natalia Minjarez is Homeschooled and in the sixth-grade. She entered in the Lubbock Chamber Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) program along with her older brother in 2018 to learn how to turn an idea into a fully functioning business. Minjarez founded SavvySave, a money management system that helps kids learn how to budget their money into three categories - Save, Spend, and Share. Over the past eight months, she has been working diligently to get SavvySave off the ground, and recently received a startup investment. Twelve-year-old Wyana Wilson is in the seveth-grade and attends Dunbar Middle School. Wilson, CEO of Scenttress, invented scented aromatherapy hair extensions that modify your negative emotions to positive emotions. Scenttress Hair is infused with essential oils that help with nausea, anxiety and stress. Wilson will leave your weave smelling fresh by using the essential oils of your choice with her customizable hair extension business. Scenttress Hair is beautiful and easy to maintain.

Fourteen-year-old London Williams is Homeschooled and in the eighth-grade. Williams, CEO of Thoughts & Things, will be selling handmade leather journals among other products at the tradeshow. Leah Jones

Eleven-year-old Leah Jones is Homeschooled and in the sixth-grade. Jones has launched her own business, My4ChairFeet, and has come up with a way to save your floors through her chair sock business. My4ChairFeet creates chair socks that are both fashionable and functional. The chair socks cover chair legs to protect floors from scratches and scuffs.

Seventeen-year-old Sergey West is a Junior at Lubbock Highschool. West is CEO of Alternative Product Solutions (APS), which is one of many businesses developed in the Young Entrepreneurs Academy. APS is pleased to present their first product —Scantron Smart, and look forward to making useful and innovative products. Scantron Smart is a tool in which fills in scantron sheet choices with efficiency. West says Scantron Smart is “Faster than a pencil, and provides a complete fill”. According to West his mission is to reduce the stress of daily activities.

 
Diego Minjarez

Seventeen-year-old Diego Minjarez is a Homeschooled Junior. Minjarez created Art&Soul with the purpose of helping aspiring artists of all ages, to express their creativity through drawing.  Each monthly subscription box comes with premium art supplies along with instructions by local artists on how to use the contents of the box. Daniel Jones

Eleven-year-old Daniel Jones is Homeschooled and in the sixth-grade. Jones, owner and CEO of Fort in a Box, was selected to represent the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) class of 2019 as a Regional Semi-Finalist at the Saunder’s Scholar National Competition in Rochester, New York on May 3, 2019. Jones’ produces a fort-building kit that consists of 12 heavy cardboard beams with holes and grommets that may be connected or used individually as supports for freestyle building. Fourteen-year-old Jillian Franco attends Trinity Christian Middle School and is in the eighth-grade. Throughout the YEA! program Franco, CEO of J Squats,  has developed knowledge of how to run a successful business. J Squats has launched FitStix which are flash drives that consists of four 15 - 20 minute youth fitness videos that Franco will be instructing. Franco’s mission is to increase the youth’s activity intake. Although this fitness program targets ages 10 - 15, anyone that wants a great low impact workout can benefit from the video.

Fourteen-year-old Ava Gutierrez attends Talkington School for Young Women Leaders and is in the eighth-grade. Gutierrez, CEO of La Aroma, created a sugar scrub business that will leave your skin feeling smooth and smelling beautiful. Need a good exfoliant? Her all natural product will be a great addition to your skincare routine.

YEA! is a groundbreaking 28-week program that guides students in grades 6-12 through the process of starting a real business, including business plan development, pitching an investor panel, obtaining funding, launching the venture, managing media campaigns, e-commerce and web development, sales events, and trade shows. Students, ages 11 to 18, are taught to recognize the power of their ideas and to develop the skills necessary to turn those ideas into meaningful companies.
