How You Can Support Agriculture on National Ag Day

Agriculture has long been the lifeblood of the Lubbock area and West Texas economies. In fact, one of the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce’s first initiatives after its formation in 1913 was to recruit farmers from the southeast United States to relocate to Lubbock in order to grow cotton. Today Lubbock sits in the middle of the largest cotton patch in the world.

National Ag Day is recognized every year to celebrate the economic and societal contributions made by the agricultural industry. This year, National Ag Day is Tuesday, March 24, and National Ag Week spans from March 23-27. The Chamber hosts an annual “Salute to Ag” luncheon and gathers lenders, growers, researchers, and more to honor the occasion. Our featured speaker this year is Dr. Mindy Brashears, Deputy Under Secretary for Food Safety with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Tickets for this year’s luncheon are still available here.

Additionally, National Ag Day’s website offers a ton of information, graphics, and other resources about all types of agricultural commodities. If you and your business are looking for ways to celebrate and promote agriculture during National Ag Day, their website is a great place to read more and pull valuable information to share with your friends and colleagues.

To read more about the crops that are grown in our area, you can also check out the Chamber’s LubbockAg.com website to learn more about cotton, sorghum, corn, wine grapes, and so much more. We hope you will join us in celebrating all the people who work in agribusiness from the Lubbock area who work every day to feed and clothe the world. Beyond the economic production they bring to our region, we’re fortunate to have the type of business people who represent the values that make West Texas strong.
