DesignEnvy - August Business of the Month

Genuine Relationships. Trust. Community. Dedication.

These are words that John Rasberry and Donya Butler use to describe DesignEnvy, the boutique advertising agency they started seventeen years ago this summer. After many years working at large-scale agencies, the partners envisioned a more genuine client-agency relationship with greater focus on innovation and creative collaboration. With diligence and God’s grace, DE has grown from a two-person, backhouse start-up to a thriving, full-service agency offering marketing by design. If you’ve seen the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce’s recent promotional video, then you’re already familiar with their “envy”-worthy work.

“Marketing by design means true unity in our client’s brand, the creative strategy, and the consumer’s point of view. That’s the sweet spot, where the target audience begins to experience a brand fully and not just see it on the peripheral,” Butler, DE’s Marketing and Brand Manager, shares.

And wherever the consumer experiences the brand, DesignEnvy is right there to experience it with them. The team traveled to Palo Duro Canyon with Carillon LifeCare Community and 23 of its residents to document a 101-year-old’s debut zip-lining ride. They’ve been sunburned at Lake Allan Henry while capturing the perfect video footage via drone for a DUH Fish Kandy commercial. They’ve been off the grid—literally, with no cell phone service—in Tres Ritos, New Mexico to work with the Boy Scouts of America South Plains Council.

“It really is the full experience that leads a consumer to engage on social media, develop brand loyalty, and refer someone through word-of-mouth referrals, which we all know are priceless, especially in a community like Lubbock. The experience is why we love what we do.”

DesignEnvy’s services include three areas of expertise: design, technology, and growth. Their designs are showcased in the logo for Picoso’s Mexican Kitchen and the print materials from this year’s American Cancer Society Cattle Baron’s Ball. Their technology capabilities range from cloud hosting and server security to website audits and analytic reports. And finally, client growth includes collaboration in branding, SEM/SEO, and digital strategy, simplified through new Comprehensive Digital Marketing Packages. Tiered to allow businesses to find the best financial fit, these can include social media management, direct mail with social match, digital advertising, website design and development, video production and more.

As an agency, DesignEnvy is on the verge of its own growth and evolution to meet the needs of the always-on, ever-changing advertising industry. They are piloting a new method that marries the convenience and timeliness of an in-house marketer with the experience and creativity of a full agency team. “When John and I started DesignEnvy, it was because we knew clients needed something different. We feel a shift and know it’s time to evolve again to serve our clients best,” Butler says. “This new strategy is a game-changer. It’s the future of our industry.”
