Ambassador of the Month

Congratulations to Monica Tracy on being selected as the March Ambassador of the Month. Read Monica's Q/A to get to know her a bit better.

Why did you choose to become an Ambassador for the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce? I chose to become an Ambassador for the networking opportunities it would afford me, and I am happy to say that what I have gained as a result is far more than I ever thought possible.

How long have you been an ambassador? I have been an Ambassador for 3 ½ yrs.

Have you ever won this award before? I have not.

As an ambassador, what are some of your favorite events to attend? I love all of the events but the Hub City BBQ is my favorite followed equally by Uncorked and the YEA! program.

What do  you feel is the most rewarding part of being an ambassador? The ability to not only network with many business owners and their staff, but also know that I have made some amazing life-long friendships. I am truly the lucky one. The Chamber is made up of some amazing people and I am lucky to be surrounded by them all.

Why is being an ambassador important to you? It has allowed me the opportunity to learn more about the current businesses that are here in Lubbock as well as to learn about the new businesses that will be coming in.

Where do you work? I work for Communities in Schools of the South Plains.

What is your position? I am Site Coordinator at Parsons Elementary with Lubbock ISD.

What all does your position entail? My job is by far the best job anyone can have. I am able to work with students, families and School staff. Currently 1 in 5 children under the age of 18 are living in poverty, we get to develop one-on -one relationships with students and their families to help them achieve so much in life. We are a safe place for students, and we offer guidance and resources. This is why networking becomes so important because our students may encounter something and we can have that relationship with someone in the community that can help. It is all about working together to ensure that students graduate and enjoy whatever comes along in their life.

How long have you been with your current company? I have been with Communities in Schools for 8 months.

Are you involved in any new activities/events with the Chamber? I maintain involvement as a Co-leader for our Ambassador team as well as help as a zone Captain for the Hub City BBQ, a committee member for Uncorked and a Mentor for the Yea Program.

Outside of the Chamber, what are you involved with? I currently serve on the Board of Directors for Red Cross, am a Board member for the Inside out Foundation, and on the Board for the South Plains Homeless Consortium. I am currently attending the Law Enforcement Citizen Academy. I serve on the following committees: Race for the Cure, PTA –Parsons Elementary, Planning Network Advisory Committee-Star Care, LISD Parental Advisory Council, and attend the Mayor’s Taskforce meetings.
