• The Chamber Experience - Through the Eyes of an Intern

    My Experience

During my senior year at Texas Tech University, I had the amazing opportunity to learn from the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce as the Communications & PR intern. Not only have I learned important skills to apply in the PR industry but I also made incredible relationships with the Chamber staff and everyone involved with the Chamber.

Through my internship, I was able to apply my coursework to everyday tasks and gain real-world experience. The Chamber also worked with me and incorporated things that I enjoy doing into my internship. I would make banners, help prep for big events, document luncheons and so much more.

My favorite assignments were those that included going out in the Lubbock community and conducting interviews, especially video-based interviews. Thanks to the Chamber, I found a new passion I didn't know I had for videography.

Thank You to the Chamber Staff and Chamber Members

I would like to say thank you to everyone I met this past year. One of the most exciting things as an intern was being able to help and learn from every staff member. Through working with such a diverse and wonderful staff, I learned things about Lubbock that made me fall in love with the town all over again. The Chamber staff encouraged me daily and made me feel welcomed as soon as I started.

I was included in programs like Leadership Lubbock and Ambassador Events where I met local business owners and employees that were Chamber members. Through them, I learned just how important and fun it is to stay involved in the community and with other businesses. No matter what setting I was in whether it was an event, a luncheon or just a meeting, each member made time to get to know me. Thank you to all the members that shared their wisdom, encouragement and advice to me on life after graduation.

    In Conclusion

Between the experience I gained and the people I was able to work with, this internship was more than I could have ever hoped for. Thanks to this internship I experienced first-hand how friendly and encouraging the Lubbock community is. I grew up in a big family and I usually don't stray far from home. Coming out to attend Texas Tech University was a big step for me and I figured I would only be here for four short years. However, because of the amazing people I met through the Chamber, I feel confident enough to call Lubbock, TX my home and I hope to stay here for many years to come.

Carson will graduate on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from Texas Tech University with her Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations. The Chamber staff is going to miss her positive attitude, work ethic and creativity around the office, but we are looking forward to seeing what great things she will accomplish in the future. Join us in sending your best wishes to Carson as she enters the next chapter - life after college.
